MABR applied ground surface water treatment has the following innovations:

  • A new application and method were devised with the MABR membrane system by directly installing the MABR hollow fiber membrane at the bottom of the river or lake. No additional civil construction is required and the natural state of the river is not affected. This is the first time when membrane technology has been applied to river water treatment in-situ.

  • Through the cultivation of native microorganisms in the river, the water treatment process is efficient and ecological. The diverse microorganisms and the high level of dissolved oxygen already presented in water aid in the removal of pollutants in the underwater soil.

  • MABR serves as an exogenous pollution control for rivers. By employing MABR as an intermediate step between processing plants and river streams, it can drastically reduce the introduction of exogenous contaminants into the river by improving the water quality. The MABR employs the native environmental conditions and microbes to reduce exogenous contaminants at a low cost.

  • During the ground surface water treatment, the MABR system not only plays a role in eliminating pollution but also promotes the re-establishment of the water’s natural ecosystems. As the quality and clarity of the water are being improved, the population of its natural aquatic life and plants begin to flourish; this re-establishes a new robust and resilient ecosystem. The MABR proves to be a crucial piece in restoring the natural ecosystem of polluted rivers.

  • All in all, the MABR system demonstrates superior sustainability with low energy consumption and green features which surpass conventional wastewater treatments methods.

For surface water treatment, the MABR units are configured into a grid-like configuration to better adapt to the unique characteristics of various types of surface water such as rivers, lakes, or ponds. The frame of the grid membrane module is flexible, thus making it customizable and adaptable for any surface water conditions, from turbulent to still-flowing water types making the MABR module highly versatile with various water conditions.

This configuration is suitable for the unique water flow characteristics of rivers. Its membrane and biofilm have high impact resistance and the biofilm is formed by native organisms, making it ecologically safe. The modules are submerged directly into the moving stream for effective in-situ treatment, therefore, reducing footprint and doesn't require additional civil construction and the natural state of the river won't be affected.
